Opere Fantastiche
MM Company designs "Opere Fantastiche" for Matteo Pala, a new collection of hanging rugs that pays homage to Venice.
MM Company designs "Opere Fantastiche" for the Matteo Pala brand: a capsule collection of four hanging rugs, designed as true works of art. The new collection, which continues the aesthetic of the previous "Prospettive Fantastiche" collection, draws inspiration from the two-dimensional pencil sketches made by an architect while jotting down design ideas during a phone call. Contarina, Anafesta, Foscara, and Alvisia are the four models in the collection, which celebrates Venice on the occasion of its 1600th anniversary in 2021. These compositions of "fantastic" volumes conceptually reflect the architectural styles that characterize the "Serenissima." Even the names are a tribute to Venice, as they imaginatively reference the titles of its most illustrious Doges. Compositions constructed from perspective projections that are perfectly visible from any angle (the Works can be hung in any of the four positions). The Opere Fantastiche collection is available in a sophisticated, minimalist color palette and features a textured feel created by varying pile heights, accentuating the vanishing lines and sense of depth: the closer we get to the center, the shorter the pile. The result is a concise, rationalist composition, composed of independent elements yet connected by a single graphic design. The rugs are the fruit of a combination of creativity, materials, and widespread expertise. Each piece was designed in the MM Company design office in Milan, then knotted entirely by hand by expert Indian artisans—who follow centuries-old techniques and use the finest materials such as New Zealand wool and silk—and then presented in Matteo Pala's exclusive showroom in Vicenza, located in the evocative Villa Zileri.
